Music Monday: This Year’s Love

| Music, Wedding Ideas

This song seemed perfect for this time of year.

The combo of David Gray’s voice and the melody on the piano made me fall in love with this song, and it would be such a gorgeous song to dance to on your wedding day.

This Year’s Love by David Gray

Sweet, right? And perfect for a first dance.

Music Monday: You Are the Best Thing

| Inspiration, Music, Wedding Ideas

I think my husband and I first heard this song when we were on our honeymoon in Vail, Colorado and we’ve loved it ever since.

Today’s song is You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne.

He has a folksy + blues vibe to his songs, but it’s the raspiness in his voice that does it for me.

“Baby, we’ve come a long way, baby

You know, I hope and I pray that you believe me

When I say this love will never fade away…”

Listen to the song below.

Lovely, isn’t it?

Music Monday: Feels Like Home

| Music, Wedding Ideas

I think I first heard this song in the movie ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ and was instantly in love. It’s been a favorite since then, and I think you’ll love it to.

Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk

My favorite line?

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I’ve been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you’ve done

The rest of the lyrics are below:

So sweet, right?

Music Monday: The Way I Am

| Music, Wedding Ideas

Yay! Today I’m in Chicago – not to shop, but I plan on making a
quick stop at Anthropologie.

Because how can you visit the only town close to you that has an Anthro
and not stop, right?

And if you like Anthropologie, you’ll love what I’m putting together
as a little gift for you at the end of the month. I can’t wait to debut it to you!

Anyway, enough about my obsession with a store.

Today’s Music Monday song comes from quirky, indie pop artist
Ingrid Michaelson.

The Way I Am is such a sweet song with cute lyrics – this would be the perfect song for a DIY or  homespun wedding.

My favorite lyrics:

If you are chilly, here take my sweater
Your head is aching; I’ll make it better

Cuz I love the way you call me baby
And you take me the way I am.

Cute, right? Listen to the song.

Have a lovely day!

Music Monday: Young, Dumb and In Love

| Music, Wedding Ideas

It’s no lie that I love Mat Kearney – I’ve feeatured his songs on Music Monday before.

His new album, Young Love, came out earlier this year and within about 2 days I had memorized all the words to every song – I listed to it during my workout, on my way to and from work and all day at work for about 2 weeks straight.

Instantly, my favorite song was Young, Dumb and In Love.

I loved this song so much because I feel like I could relate to it.

‘To be honest, I fell for you that first night..” – I mean, that was totally my relationship with Justin.

I love how sweet all his songs are, and his relationship with his wife is so adorable. I mean, how cute are they?

Here’s my favorite verse – probably because it’s about their wedding day:

Well, under the weeping willows and a sea firing flies

With your gypsy necklace and my big brown bow tie

You kissed my lips like I was catching a flight

I said if I’m honest I fell for you that first night

If I’m honest I fell for you that first night

To be young and dumb and in love…

This would be an amazing first dance song because it’s upbeat and you can have some fun with it.

Do you love it?

Music Monday: Run

| Inspiration, Music, Wedding Ideas

Happy Monday!

Today’s song has been a staple on my playlists lately because it’s that amazing.

Run by Snow Patrol

One line of the song says:

“Light up, light up… as if you have a choice. Even if you cannot hear my voice, I’ll be right beside you dear..”

Those lyrics inspire me, but they would also be lovely lyrics for a first dance song.

Here’s the music video:

Isn’t it perfect?

Music Monday: Into the Dark

| Inspiration, Music

Death Cab for Cutie is one of my favorite bands of all time, and one of my favorite songs by them is Into the Dark.

The simple strums on the guitar and the sweet lyrics, although kind of dark, make this song amazing.

It talks about true love, and going where ever you have to go to be with your love. Under any circumstance, I will be with you.

So simple, so lovely.

Love of mine
Someday you will die
But I’ll be close behind
I’ll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of the spark

If heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark

In catholic school, as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me “Son fear is the heart of love”
So I never went back

If heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark

You and me
Have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes
Are all worn down, the time for sleep is now
But it’s nothing to cry about ’cause we’ll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms

If heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
And I’ll follow you into the dark.

Love it.

Did you know the lead singer of Death Cab is married to Zooey Deschanel? She’s my favorite, which makes me like this band even more 🙂

Have a wonderful Monday! I’m heading back home from NYC today, I’ll post pics soon 🙂

Music Monday: Hey Mama

| Inspiration, Life, Music, Wedding Ideas

From the moment I heard this song, I was in love.

First of all, it’s more upbeat than most of Mat Kearney’s previous songs and it has style… I mean it mentions Anthropologie – my favorite!

Second, his personal style oozes retro, preppy and vintage…also my favorite! He is one of my favorite artists, he is truly talented. This song is about the day Mat met his wife, I’m going to post pics of their wedding later this week, because I’m telling you – it’s gorgeous. I think the reason I like his songs so much is that he writes what is real, and he writes a lot about his life and relationships.

That’s why today’s song is Hey Mama by Mat Kearney

The lyrics are fun and SO sweet, and the video is super cute too.
One of my favorite lines:

I met her at anthropology, Purple boots and her golden dreams…

Adorable. See/Listen for yourself.

She don’t know what she wants to be
With all the pictures in the magazines
Holding hands when she’s mad at me
’cause she don’t wanna go, don’t wanna go

I met her at anthropology
Purple boots and her golden dreams
Standing there like a Tennessee queen
Singing don’t look at me, don’t look at me

Singing oh oh
won’t you help me sing this song
Singing ee ee ee
She don’t ever want to go to sleep

Singing hey mama, don’t want no drama
Just a kiss before I leave
Hey lady, don’t say maybe
You’re the one that I can believe

Hey lover, don’t want no other
finger for my ring

Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama

Oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh

I can see it in her Cherokee eyes
Those baby browns and the golden thighs
What you doing for the rest of your life?
Cause you don’t want, don’t wanna go

Singing oh oh
won’t you help me sing this song
Singing ee ee ee
She playing like a mystery

Singing hey mama, don’t want no drama
Just a kiss before I leave
Hey lady, don’t say maybe
You’re the one that I can believe

Hey lover, don’t want no other
finger for my ring

Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama

Oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh

Couldn’t be more opposite
I’m hard to please and you’re hard to get
You’re Mississippi and I’m Oregon
You’re sun tanned and I’m porcelain skinned.

Singing hey mama, don’t want no drama
Just a kiss before I leave
Hey lady, don’t say maybe
You’re the one that I can believe

Hey lover, don’t want no other
finger for my ring

Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama
Hey mama, hey hey mama

Oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh
Ooh oh oh oh

Ah-dorable.

Instead of buying just this song, I think you should buy the whole album – Young Love.  Better yet, go buy all of his stuff. He’s amazing!

Have a great Monday!
