Let’s Get Real for a Second..

| Inspiration, Life

This post is going to be a little bit different than most of my posts – I’m going to be honest for a moment.

On my one year wedding anniversary, I was sitting in a gorgeous hotel in  Vail, Colorado with my awesome husband, blessed with amazing friends and family, good health and the world at my fingertips.

But all I could think about was how much I hated my body.

It was a really low point for me – I cried for hours wondering how anyone could love me looking like this.

For almost 10 years, I’ve had some pretty bad body image issues – all from 5 pounds I gained after high school.

I usually hate most everything I put on because as soon as I look in the mirror, I find something wrong with myself – my butt is too big, my thighs are too chunky, my stomach is never flat enough and my boobs are too small. And don’t forget about my close set eyes or my legs that will never be long enough.

Ever been there? It’s not a fun place to be, especially when a big event or milestone is drawing closer like your wedding day or anniversary.

Then I joined Rich, Happy and Hot B-School and came across the biggest sweetheart in the world named Amber Krys and her business called bodyheart. (Check out her site – I just did lots of new website graphics for her!)

Amber’s passion is to help women see that they can love their bodies no matter how fat, skinny, short, or tall they are. She has helped me see that I need to start living my life NOW, not when I lose that last 5 pounds and not when I fit into a 2.

When I went to NYC last year, I had the chance to participate in one of Amber’s photoshoots – you may have seen this photo she took of me:

It was an awesome experience to be among women who were stepping out and loving their bodies instead of hating them.

If you’ve ever struggled with your weight, you have to watch this quick video from Amber. She’s got a refreshing take on why focusing on losing weight is the wrong approach and one thing you can do today to feel lighter.

It’s short and powerful. Check it out here.

It’s time to start changing the way we look at our bodies + start loving them instead of hating them, am I right?

Let me know what you think of the video

Love/List: Links from this Week

| Inspiration, Life, Love/List

Woo hoo – it’s Friday!

I hope you’ve got some fun things planned for this weekend – mine will actually be pretty quiet, thank goodness! I’m hoping to get my 11 mile run in,  get some photos taken of all of our bikes to get online, add some stuff to my Etsy shop and work on my new branding a bit more!

Here are some of my favorite links from this week:

DIY Hair Powder – definitely trying this soon – time to stop paying so much for dry shampoo! Plus the brunette version is bound to smell delicious!

Instagram Tricks – Did you know I started out the year with a goal of taking an Instagram photo a day? I’ve missed a few days but have made up for it on others. This is a fun article with Instagram tips and tricks.

These envelopes are adorable. They take some planning before you’re going to send out a letter or card, but a pretty + creative way to add some flare to your envelopes.

I kinda wanna buy some of these arrows. You know, just to have on hand.

I’m listening to this playlist all day long. Love it.

Alright – have a beautiful weekend lovelies!

Music Monday: Mistakes We Knew We Were Making

| Inspiration, Life, Music

Hello dearies!

Do you know what week this is? It’s blogaversary week + I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Oh, What Love. It marked a turning point in my life, and I can say that a year later my goals + dreams for this blog + my career are coming true.

It’s also my anniversary week – 3 beautiful years with my love. Stay tuned, Wednesday there will be a little giveaway 🙂

Today’s song comes from the same album of my very first Music Monday. It’s Mistakes We Knew We Were Making by Straylight Run and it is perfection.

Here are some of my favorite lines:

so we bottled and shelved all our regrets
let them ferment and came back to our senses
drove back home and slept a few days
woke up and laughed at how stupid we used to be

so I just try
fail and try and try again
someday I swear I’m going to get it
because I’m convinced that giving in
is the worst thing there is

Ahh, chills. It’s one of my very favorites.

Listen to the song below.

Do you love it?

Just want to take a quick moment for all of your blog love over the past year, I appreciate you all SO much!

Love/List: My New Kitchen

| Life, Love/List

Happy Friday!

Last October, I came home from New York City to find 2 massive holes where walls used to be – my husband had decided to start our kitchen remodel while I was away. We desperately needed an update – I mean look at that sconce above the sink! Totally not our style.

After 3 long months with a makeshift kitchen set up in my laundry room, I finally got my new kitchen and I’m sharing a few before + after photos today!

Justin did everything himself in the remodel, from ripping everything out down to the studs, adding a bigger window, framing in the new openings, drywall, floor, trim, cabinets – he even put the cabinets together!.. He is truly amazing + talented.

We’ve still got some trim to finish, and we’re saving up for the fridge that matches our other appliances, but I couldn’t be happier with the result.

Some of my fave details: our old trouble light/edison bulb penant lamps, the glass doors in the corner cabinets, the corian countertop + my new breakfast bar w/ the turquoise stools. We’re holding out for some Toledo drafting stools, but these are fun in the meantime!

We also got rid of a bedroom on the main floor and opened up the walls that once closed off the room. Now our main floor is wide open and I love it!

WAY more grown up, right? I’m in love with my table – and our centerpiece was one of the centerpieces from our wedding.

So what do you think? Better huh?

Road Trip

| Life

I’m back from our amazing long road trip and it feels good to be back on schedule, I am missing the mountain air + our friends and family though. We had so much fun!

Here’s a round up of our trip:

Saturday: We were going to go to bed at 4 pm and get up at midnight to head on our 13 hour trek, but we were too excited to sleep so we left at 6pm.

Sunday: We got to Estes Park,CO at 11:30 and met up with our Denver friends, Jenni and Tyler. We drove to the visitors center on top of the mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park, got caught in the rain, got caught in a snow storm, almost got struck by lightening and saw lots of elk. Too much fun.

Monday: I got up early Monday morning and sat on the porch of the lodge at the YMCA of the Rockies. Probably the most gorgeous place I’ve ever caught up on some work. Later on, we met up with family in town and hiked in the park. We went to a great little restaurant for dinner + ended the night with a little game called Greed – have you ever played? It’s addicting.

Tuesday: ATV riding in the mountains! Even though I live in rural area, I had never been on a 4 wheeler and was pretty terrified. By the end of the 3 hour, self guided ride, I was tearing down the trails and going through every puddle in sight. So much fun! Then we went to the Alluvial Fall, which was an amazing piece of history to learn about. Took our shoes off and put our feet in the cool water. Then we took Fall Ridge Road up to the vistors center again and saw SO many elk it was crazy, and I bought the most adorkable wool sweater with reindeer on it. Can’t wait to bust that thing out!

Wednesday: We went to the Stanley hotel and walked around for a bit. Justin and I stayed here on our honeymoon and I was so terrified I didn’t sleep all night. It was the hotel that inspired the movie The Shining and I promise you.. it’s haunted – gorgeous, but haunted. Next we shopped a bit in Estes Park and I got a gorgeous vintage dry creek turquoise ring. Pretty obsessed with it right now! After Estes, Justin and I drove down to Golden and did some ‘pickin’ for antiques, we found some fun stuff at the Brass Armadillo.

Thursday: Up early + drove to Lakewood to meet up with my Create + Connect Project biz partner, Katrina Padron, to do an interview for our program. It was pretty short and sweet, but we accomplished a lot! Fun things coming for the Create  + Connect Project. Then we went to a few more flea markets and antique shops and Justin found Herman, our new deer head that came home with us. He’s gonna sell it in our booth. He better sell it in our booth.

Friday: Justin and I checked out the Mile High Market. It was a TOTAL waste of time – Friday is obviously not the day to go! So we met up with our Jenni friend for lunch + Moscow Mules at Stuben’s in Denver. Seriously delicious. We were going to catch a Rockies game but the weather didn’t cooperate, so we ate at Shells and Sauce and played dice games all night. Too much fun.

Saturday: In April we bought a Groupon for a Denver beer tour with Jenni and Tyler. Little did we know, beer tour basically stood for a glorified taxi but we had SO much fun touring 5 different breweries in the Denver area with our driver, Ron. He seriously made us laugh, and we got to taste some delicious microbrews! I think I’ve officially turned into a beer girl 🙂

Okay, that was seriously long, but we packed SO much fun into the trip that I couldn’t leave anything out!

Bike Hoarders

| Inspiration, Life, Real Weddings, Rentals, Vintage

I’m not gonna lie to you, Justin and I are hoarding lots and lots of vintage bikes. And we don’t want to sell them.

So we’ve got a plan… we’re going to start renting out our vintage bicycles for weddings and photography shoots. We’ve got between 15 and 20 bikes from the 40’s through the 80’s and they’re all in pretty good condition – we’ve even got a green tandem bike that we’ve been riding around town and a white John Deere girls bike that is my absolute favorite.

If you’re interested in renting any bikes for photography shoots or weddings, just contact me via the contact form or call/text me – 563.271.2947 – and we can work something out!

Here are a few that we’ve got!

To stay up to date on all of our new bike finds + lot of other fun, vintage stuff, like Post Monroe Antiques on Facebook!

Have a great Tuesday!

A Little Brand Inspiration..

| Creative Entrepreneurs, Inspiration, Life

Now that I’m working on my own, I’m realizing how hard it really is to stay focused on actually working! It’s so easy to run outside quick to water the garden or throw a load of laundry in, I’m having a hard time staying focused on all the things I need to get done. Gotta learn how to get that under control!

One of the things I am going to be focusing on is rebranding Oh, What Love. I want to spruce things up a bit, so today I’m sharing with you a little bit of my logo/brand inspiration:

I know I want to keep things simple, and I want a hint of color – just gotta narrow in on exactly what I want! As a graphic designer, it’s SO hard to design a logo for yourself because you know all of the options you have. Oh well, I’ll work my way through it!

Have a wonderful evening, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow!
